Choosing a tone and cadence for your personal brand online

Who should I be on social platforms?
This is a big question I’m asked a lot by clients. Who should I be on social? Do I need two separate accounts on IG — one for personal and one for professional? What tone should I take on LinkedIn? Is posting every week too much?
These questions come from a place of wanting to be cautious… wanting to extend a certain persona onto social channels… wanting to manage others’ perception of us.
The big simple answer to this question is: be YOU.
No, you don’t need two IG accounts, unless you have a business that warrants a separate account.
The tone you take on social should be your tone — the one you use when you feel most like yourself.
How often to post? This is also personal, and your posting cadence should work well for you. Weekly is only too much if it’s too much for you. Monthly is fine, and so is quarterly. It all depends on your goals and your preference.
I work with my clients to remove fear from the equation when they are first activating their digital presence… when they are first finding their voice and tone and stepping into their authentic selves as thought leaders in their area of expertise. It’s scary, but it’s fun, and it’s important work.
